Easter Call-Response 2013 – I Have Seen the Lord

Easter Sunday - I Have Seen the Lord

This Easter our service focused on Mary of Magdala’s response to encountering the risen Christ in John 20.  She encounters Jesus and is immediately told to Go (something Jesus tells people quite often…) and tell others about the resurrection.  Her response is to tell the disciples ‘I have seen the Lord’.  One of the members of our creative team, Julie Phillips, wrote the following congregational Call-Response which we used on Easter Sunday as a great way to help our community connect-the-dots between Mary’s statement of I have seen the Lord, and how encountering the resurrected Christ changes our own hearts and the heart of our community.  I hope that you find this as enriching and I did, and can use or adapt it for your own use:

I have seen the Lord! Now we, just like Mary find ourselves sent forth, sent out to make Jesus known, and so together we declare:

I HAVE SEEN THE LORD

… in the way we love others, thinking nothing of self,

I HAVE SEEN THE LORD

…in the way we forgive when forgiveness seems impossible

I HAVE SEEN THE LORD

… in the way we sacrifice that defies explanation

I HAVE SEEN THE LORD

… in the way that we embody a peace that passes all understanding

I HAVE SEEN THE LORD

… in the way we reconcile each of us one to another and to God

We have seen the Lord, indeed, and are changed! Thanks be to God
